Capt. Mike Foate
Hi folks,
I am writing this in hope that the information I post here will clear up some confusion w/ regard to the Florida Property Tax Amendment that is on the ballot for January 29, 2008. This amendment is NOT the same as the previous SUPER EXEMPTION AMENDMENT that was so highly advertised. The SUPER EXEMPTION AMENDMENT is DEAD.

The current amendment preserves the Save Our Homes provision as well as the 3% cap for Homesteaded properties.
Other key points include:

  • Ensuring Save Our Homes portability, up to $500,000 (reduced from $1 million)
  • Doubling the $25,000 homestead exemption
  • Tangible personal property exemption of $25,000
  • 10% cap on assessments for non-homestead property

It is my personal opinion that the current amendment is worth voting for however, it definately falls VERY short from what could have and should have been done for property tax system reform.

To read more about the current amendment that is on the January 29, 208 ballot go here.

To read an opposing view of the amendement go here.

To read what I think should be on the ballot go here.

Thank you and have a GREAT day!
