Short sales increase as housing slump deepens: Lenders help
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – Aug. 20, 2007 – Investor Harold Stark paid $365,000 for a three-bedroom Boynton Beach townhouse last year. But the monthly mortgage payments soon started to feel like a noose around his neck.
His property’s value dropped below what he still owed, $329,000. But rather than letting the townhouse fall into foreclosure, Stark worked out a deal in which he sold it for $285,000, and his lender, Chase Home Finance, forgave the difference. Read more... The Florida legislature got something done with regard to the tax issue.
“While the tax reform package passed yesterday is not perfect, it does begin to address some of the inequities in the system,†says John Sebree, Florida Association of Realtors®’ (FAR) vice president of public policy. “Realtors support rolling back property tax rates and capping millage rates in order to provide homeowners and businesses with some much needed property tax relief. We were disappointed that legislators were not able to come to an agreement on the issue of “highest and best use†and how property is appraised.
